Gidea Park railway station, Greater London, 2013
Opened in 1910 as "Squirrels Heath & Gidea Park" by the Great Eastern Railway on its line from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield, the name order was reversed in 1913, finally becoming just "Gidea Park" in 1969. Gidea Park railway station, Greater London
Opened in 1910 as "Squirrels Heath & Gidea Park" by the Great Eastern Railway on its line from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield, the name order was reversed in 1913, finally becoming just "Gidea Park" in 1969. Gidea Park railway station
Trains through Gidea Park are currently operated by "One Railway", and on weekdays there is a daytime service every 10 minutes to and from Liverpool Street. This view was taken from the footbridge.

Gidea Park station
The Eastern Counties Railway opened on 1st July 1840 through here. It became the Great Eastern Main Line in 1843 when the line was extended towards Colchester. Gidea Park station was opened much later as Squirrels Heath & Gidea Park on 1st December 1910 by the Great Eastern Railway on the company's main line from London Liverpool Street. At the end of 1913 the name was switched to Gidea Park & Squirrels Heath. Two additional tracks which are normally used by fast services were provided in 1934 by the London & North Eastern Railway. On 20th February 1969 the station became simply Gidea Park. Services are now operated by TFL Rail prior to the Elizabeth Line taking over in 2018. In this photograph the up slow line can be seen and next to it the down fast line. Out of sight are the down slow to the left and the up fast to the right.
