Romford station opened on 20th June 1839 as the eastern terminus of the Eastern Counties Railway from Mile End. Both these termini were temporary with the line extending east to Brentwood and west to Bishopsgate (Low Level) in 1840. The two stations were combined in 1934. This view shows on the right a train on the half hourly shuttle about to set off For Upminster via Emerson Park Halt.
