The Bolney Stage
A Public House but not an old coaching inn. Originally farm buildings, it became first the 'Tudor Tea Rooms', and then in the 1960s it prospered and was renamed the Bolney Stage. The house genuinely dates from c.1500, and the house did lie on the main London-Brighton road, and in 1810 the new turnpike opened between Pyecombe and Bolney. https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/bolneystage/history/

Back in the days before Bolney was bypassed the car park always seemed to be full at weekends.

The Bolney Stage, London Road, Bolney
A public house that has all the hallmarks of an old coaching inn but appearances can be deceptive. The building does indeed date back to around 1500 but as a farmhouse and long predated the London-Brighton road. It was built on the northern boundary of the former Bolney Common that was enclosed in the 1840s and was called Common Farm on the 1874 OS map becoming Ford's Farm by the following edition in 1897. It retained this name until the 1920s when it became Tudor House having been converted into a hotel and tearoom. The latter proved popular with motorists on the A23 and the Tudor Tearoom was eventually renamed the Bolney Stage in the 1960s

Bolney Stage Cottage, Broxmead Lane, Bolney
A former outhouse of Image that has been converted onto a cottage. It lies next to the old course of Broxmead Lane which originally joined London Road in a 'V' shape with a north and south branch. The latter disappeared in the early 1990s when the A23 was realigned whilst the former remains but is truncated leading to a dead end before Image

London Road
The former A23 heads north out of Bolney and rejoins the new course on the parish boundary with Cuckfield to the north. Prior to the rerouting in the early 1990s the road became a dual carriageway at the bend in the distance, reverting to a single carriage when the new road opened. The road here dates from around 1815 when opened as part of a new London-Brighton turnpike and was widened in the late 1930s.
