The former A23 heads north out of Bolney and rejoins the new course on the parish boundary with Cuckfield to the north. Prior to the rerouting in the early 1990s the road became a dual carriageway at the bend in the distance, reverting to a single carriage when the new road opened. The road here dates from around 1815 when opened as part of a new London-Brighton turnpike and was widened in the late 1930s.
