Confusion on the bridge
The Southport 10k run has a convoluted course which requires competitors to cross this bridge twice in each direction. As the bridge also remains open to pedestrians throughout, at times it gets interestingly congested.

Memorial to the crew of the "Eliza Fearnley"
The lifeboat "Eliza Fearnley" capsized on the night of December 9th 1886 during an attempted rescue the crew of the "Mexico", fourteen crew members were lost, only two surviving. On the same night the St. Annes lifeboat the "Laura Janet" was also launched, this boat too capsized with the loss of all fourteen members of the crew. The crew of the "Mexico" were all saved by the Lytham lifeboat the "Charles Biggs"

Statue of Red Rum
The sculpture of Red Rum by Lady Annette Yarrow was unveiled in the Wayfarer Arcade, Southport on the 1st August 1979. The plinth was made by Sheet Metal & Fabrication students on a Youth Opportunities Programme at the Hugh Baird College, Bootle.
