The lifeboat "Eliza Fearnley" capsized on the night of December 9th 1886 during an attempted rescue the crew of the "Mexico", fourteen crew members were lost, only two surviving. On the same night the St. Annes lifeboat the "Laura Janet" was also launched, this boat too capsized with the loss of all fourteen members of the crew. The crew of the "Mexico" were all saved by the Lytham lifeboat the "Charles Biggs"
