The concrete cones mark the locations of two Tett turrets, a type of pillbox of which only very few were ever constructed. The only other known examples can be found on the edge of the disused aerodrome at Hornchurch in Essex. Other examples are reported from Sudbury in Suffolk (destroyed), which, like the Norfolk specimens was mounted on a brick structure instead of a vertical concrete pipe, and from the Isle of Man but it is not known if these still exist. The Tett Turret comprises a rotating steel turret mounted onto a sunken concrete pipe but the recorded examples all have concrete turrets. The structures were designed to defend road junctions but turned out to be far too cramped and were soon abandoned again. View eastward, towards Wells-next-the Sea: ex-GER Heacham - Wells branch. The line and station were closed 2/6/52, but Heacham - Burnham Market remained for freight until 28/12/64, with Burnham Market - Wells having been abandoned after the great floods of 31/1/53. The substantial goods shed here has lasted into 1991.
