The Coalheavers Arms is a small, one-roomed, back street 'local' dating from the 1850s. Perhaps the coalheavers referred to here (i.e. workers who either carry coal or shovel it) were associated with the Fletton Brick Factory? This was the only pub in Peterborough to have suffered bomb damage during WWII.

Reportedly, a gated residential development has been proposed for the site but there are difficulties about direct access from the busy London Road. See also Image and Image

The Coalheavers Arms on Park Street in the Woodston area of the city was built in the 1850s. It was acquired in June 2002 by Individual Pubs Limited, a company which operates pubs supplied by Milton Brewery, an independent brewery based at Waterbeach near Cambridge. Bomber's Drop is a special ale produced by Milton Brewery to commemorate the night in November 1940 when The Coalheavers was bombed by the German Luftwaffe, becoming the only pub in Peterborough to be damaged by enemy action during the Second World War. Despite its unassuming exterior, this real ale pub is a hidden treasure, tucked away on a residential street off London Road which would be very easy to miss if one were not aware of its existence.
