Gateway in the grounds of Manor Farm, Forest Hill
Seen from the north-west corner of the churchyard. The Oxfordshire volume of Sherwood and Pevsner's 'The Buildings of England' has this to say: 'A C17 GATEWAY with a broken pediment enclosing a stone prism on a column. It may once have served as a sundial'. I would add that the gateway has been blocked, and that the 'prism' seems to be a fourteen-sided solid.

St Nicholas, Forest Hill: west end
The ground falls sharply west of the tightly confined churchyard, which presumably resulted in subsidence and the need for these disproportionately massive buttresses.

St Nicholas, Forest Hill
This Norman church was altered in the 13th century and again in the 19th, when the north aisle was added and the wall painting, patterns and texts.

Thatched cottage, Church Hill, Forest Hill
Seen from the churchyard. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this cluster of 'rooflets' - reminiscent of an old rickyard, or of a troop of fungi: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3145180 But for a few 21st century intrusions (including the cypress tree!) the scene could be a detail from an early Dutch or Flemish painting - Bosch perhaps, or Breughel.
