Thames Valley Police Information

Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan police force in England and Wales. We police the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and serve a diverse population of more than two million, plus six million visitors who come to Thames Valley each year. We patrol 196 miles of motorway - more than any other British police force. The Thames Valley Police force area is divided into 12 Local Policing Areas (LPAs). For more information, visit the Thames Valley Police website.

Wheatley and Chalgrove Neighbourhood

Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

9 Apr 2024

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Response (9 Apr 2024)

The team have employed a broad range of tools designed to combat anti-social behaviour including imposing Closure Orders on several local properties, preventing individuals from visiting and disrupting the community. We have imposed a Criminal Behaviour Order on one local individual who is now restricted from visiting the locale and have therefore reduced public disorder and demand on police resources. We have responded to a local issue around disorder outside of an entertainment premises with a Hotspot Patrol that resulted in identifying a group of youths responsible. Those youths have been visited in the company of their parents and the behaviour has ceased. We have also carried out a number of drugs warrants, dismantled a cannabis factory and have several drug dealers under ongoing investigation.

9 Apr 2024

Retail Crime

Response (9 Apr 2024)

The team’s Sergeant met with parish councillors recently to discuss current policing priorities, including retail crime. We have worked with many of the retail premises across the sector highlighting crime trends, improving CCTV systems, target hardening premises, designing out crime and identifying offenders. We recently conducted a week of intensification around retail crime which resulted in the charge of one offender for 10 offences. PCSO Keogh is working intensively with ASDA and has incorporated a series of events within the foyer alongside partners and the charity sector including Age UK.

9 Apr 2024

Violence Against Women and Girls

Response (9 Apr 2024)

We continue to prioritise combatting Violence Against Women and Girls. Following a month of enhanced patrols in the Night Time Economy we continue to deploy into the Town Centre on weekends to ensure that it is a safer space for everyone to enjoy a night out. We have been working with partners within licensing to review incidents and provide advice to licensees on how better to protect customers. We also continue to work with local educational establishments to highlight our intolerance to violent offences against women and girls. We have directly combatted violent offending during County Lines Intensification Week, visiting vulnerable members of the public ensuring they are free from coercion from gangs and also working with transport hubs to better identify those travelling into our area to commit crime.

25 Jun 2024

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

The team have received information and have responded with patrols in relation to anti-social behaviour in a number of areas within Thame’s sector including the Cuttlebrook, Chalgrove, Chinnor, the Town Centre, Watlington, Wheatley and Shotover. We have worked with schools and other partners to ensure that those involved in anti-social behaviour have received appropriate restorative sanctions. We are in liaison with our off-road motorcycle team who will be supporting the Neighbourhood Team with patrols of Shotover, Wheatley and Barton Wick who have all experienced noise and several near misses with illegally used off-road motorbikes.

Response (25 Jun 2024)

This month the team have obtained positive outcomes for shopliftings committed by youths locally. We have also been rolling out DISC, a system endorsed by the Police and Crime Commissioner to better enable stores to report shoplifting and provide the police with evidence in order to prosecute offenders. We continue to work with some of the bigger local stores and have been holding joint events with charities within them to ensure maximum reach and engagement with as many shoppers as possible. We have also been working with stores in order to ensure police are receiving best evidence to increase our success rate in locating and bringing shoplifters to justice.

25 Jun 2024

Violence Against Women and Girls

Response (25 Jun 2024)

The team and our colleagues from other departments have been patrolling hotspot areas and also events in order to make the local environment safer for Women and Girls and reduce violence directed towards them. The team arrested a male for displaying harassment behaviour towards a young female. He received a fixed penalty notice for a Public Order offence. We have worked with the District Council and varied and extended the Public Spaces Protection Order which prohibits consumption of alcohol in Thame Town Centre as well as gathering in anti-social groups. We have also been working with licensees in order to make the European Championships a safer event to watch in pubs as well as putting in ground work in relation to events forthcoming this Autumn including the local Fair.
