Burford: Sheep Street
Looking towards High Street. Sheep Street used to be home to the editorial offices of The Countryman, now re-located to Skipton, North Yorkshire. The street name points to one of the town’s former industries – wool. The town was also once known for its bellfounders, maltsters, inn-keepers, saddlers and stonemasons, as well as a racing fraternity in King Charles II’s time

TSB bank (1), 4-6 Sheep Street, Burford, Oxon
Built in 1878 for the County of Gloucester Bank. At one time it was the fourth largest note-issuing bank in England and Wales. An economic downturn in the 1890's led to the bank being taken over by Lloyds Bank in 1897. The building then became a branch of Lloyds Bank until 1995 when Lloyds merged with the TSB Group to form Lloyds TSB Bank. In 2013 they were required to divest themselves of 630 branches which formed a new TSB bank. Burford was one of those branches. The building itself is Grade II listed.
Update: TSB closed this branch on the 10th May 2021.

TSB bank (2) - old signage, 4-6 Sheep Street, Burford, Oxon
The building was constructed in 1878 for the long gone County of Gloucester Bank Limited. It still retains its original name inscribed on the stonework, although it was taken over by Lloyds Bank in 1897. It remains a bank today, being a branch of TSB.
Update: TSB closed this branch on the 10th May 2021.
