The Queen's Head and Artichoke
Back in the 16th Century the Queen's Head and Artichoke was once a royal hunting lodge. On the building of Regents Park, it was moved to its present site in Albany Street, a new building being built in 1811. The present building, with its interesting turret, dates from around 1900.
The licence itself dates from Queen Elizabeth I. Although the name of the pub sounds like a modern theme pub creation, its name dates back to its origins, being attributed to Daniel Clarke, master cook to Elizabeth I and James I, with the tavern itself being run by Queen Elizabeth's head gardener.
