The tunnels east of Golders Green tube station
From here (by either the Charing Cross or Bank branches to Kennington) the lines are in tunnels all the way to just outside the southern terminus at Image (photographed by Malc McDonald). A similar view in the heavy snow of February 1986 is shown in Image (also photographed by Malc McDonald). There were originally only two tunnels and portals. But when the length of trains was increased from 6 to 7 carriages, a siding - on the left of the photo - had to be extended; as there was a hill in the way, a third tunnel was cut that is only one carriage long.
