Llanwenarth Baptist Chapel, Govilon
Located in the churchyard between Station Road and the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.
The tablet http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5474200 on the building shows ERECTED 1695 RENOVATED 1870.
At the time of the chapel's construction, Llanwenarth, on the other side of the river Usk, was the more important location, hence the name of the chapel. The building was Grade II (star) listed in 1994.
The information board on the corner of the building states that Llanwenarth Baptist Church (as a group of worshippers) was founded in 1652, the oldest Baptist Fellowship in Wales. The first members met in homes in Abergavenny.

Grade II (star) Listed church, Govilon, Monmouthshire
Llanwenarth Baptist Church is set back from the south side of Station Road.
CADW records that this is the oldest Baptist church in Wales - the Baptist
Fellowship here was founded in 1652. The building seen here is the result
of several remodellings. Its origin was a chapel in 1695. In the 18th century
it was doubled in size and was then remodelled again, principally in 1869-1870.
There was further renovation in 1893 and major recent restoration.
Grade II (star) Listed for its historical importance and the surviving
elements of its 18th century interior.
