Located in the churchyard between Station Road and the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. The tablet http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5474200 on the building shows ERECTED 1695 RENOVATED 1870. At the time of the chapel's construction, Llanwenarth, on the other side of the river Usk, was the more important location, hence the name of the chapel. The building was Grade II (star) listed in 1994. The information board on the corner of the building states that Llanwenarth Baptist Church (as a group of worshippers) was founded in 1652, the oldest Baptist Fellowship in Wales. The first members met in homes in Abergavenny.
