This doesn't look very promising, but it's rightly signposted as the quickest route on foot or bike. This is the northern end of the station car park; you go past a garage and Carter Construction, and then onto a footpath into Holywell Crescent ...

Temporary Bridge at Abergavenny Railway Station
This picture shows the rather high temporary bridge installed at Abergavenny Railway Station while repairs are undertaken to the permanent footbridge. Looking past the temporary bridge you can see a brace section and the two shrouded ends of the permanent bridge. See Image to see what this looked like.

Railway at Abergavenny
Taken from the temporary footbridge (erected as a replacement while the permanent footbridge was refurbished), looking towards Hereford. The line opened in 1853 as the Newport, Abergavenny & Hereford Railway, but merged with other companies in 1860 to become the West Midland Railway. Despite the London & North Western Railway having high hopes of exploiting the line to gain a foothold in a predominantly Great Western Railway area, the West Midland Railway was absorbed by the GWR shortly after its formation.
