Up express at Magor, with BR 'Britannia' Pacific
(See also Image]). View west, towards Newport and South Wales, also the North via Abergavenny and Hereford. The train is the 08.00 Neyland - Paddington express, headed by Riddles 7P 4-6-2 No. 70016 'Ariel' (built 9/51, withdrawn 8/67). Several 'Britannia's worked on WR to South Wales and the West Country for nearly 10 years from 1952, latterly all working from Cardiff Canton Depot.

Ex-GWR South Wales main line at Magor, with Up coal train
View westward, towards Maindee Junctions, Newport, Cardiff etc. In the distance a Down freight recedes on the Down Slow, while in the foreground '5600' No. 6689 (built 10/28) drifts along the Up Slow with a Class H train of slack in 16-ton steel wagons.

Portsmouth - Cardiff express passing Magor
View eastward, towards Severn Tunnel Junction etc.: ex-GW South Wales Main line. The train will have come via Eastleigh to Salisbury, where the WR locomotive will have taken over to run via Westbury and Bristol (Stapleton Road) and the Severn Tunnel. It is Collett 4-6-0 No. 4948 'Northwick Hall' (built 8/29, withdrawn 9/62).
