No play on a grey day
This zoom shot across The Meadows from Nottingham Castle shows the big screen of Trent Bridge Cricket Ground scoreboard blank on the third day of the Notts-Lancashire match. It was the coldest August day for forty years, and a washout (but after some horse-trading between the captains the next morning, Notts, on their way to the 2010 County Championship, eventually chased down an agreed total to win). Even on a murky day in which distant Wilford Hill has almost disappeared in the gloom, the ground's distinctive floodlights are prominent. In the centre of the picture, on the city side of the Trent, is Turney Court, a block of flats which was once Turney Brothers' Trent Bridge Leather Works. The large white building to the left, on the far bank of the Trent, is the Rushcliffe Council Offices, built in the 1960s as a hotel. The spire of St Saviour's Church shows above the trees. Riverside reflections near Trent Bridge
These houses are part of the Quayside development on the former Turney Brothers site between Trent Bridge and Meadow Lane Lock on the left bank of the river. Trent University's Newton Building, the Council House and the former High Pavement Unitarian Chapel are on the hazy skyline. The picture was taken at about 7.15 on a sparkling spring morning.

Meadow Lane Lock
A regeneration scheme jointly funded by British Waterways and Nottingham Regeneration Ltd has recently renovated the lock and the Trent riverside. In the background are the houses of Quayside Close and the former Turney Brothers leather factory, now the award-winning Turney Court flats. Good job this area is no longer scented by the pong of the Meadow Lane glue factory, as it was when I was young.

A September evening by the Trent
This is the walk from Trent Bridge (behind the camera) to Meadow Lane Lock. The setting sun catches the west-facing girders of Lady Bay Bridge, now a road bridge but built to carry trains to St Pancras via Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Corby and Kettering. Colwick Woods are in the distance on the right of the picture, the block of flats on Colwick Road outlined against them.
