Jingle bells
A low cost solution to detecting over-height loads passing under the electric wires at a level crossing, Doubtless originally with high loads of hay hauled by a tractor particularly in mind, but with today's fully enclosed cabs on tractors one wonders how audible it would be.

Controls level crossings at Muskham on the East Coast Main Line. This is a busy stretch of railway and my record so far waiting here is two trains each way before the barrier was lifted - even then I was the only car to be waiting.

Bathley Lane Crossing and signal box
One of the few crossings along this section of the East Coast Main Line where the box still survives, but not for much longer. The crossing itself is due to be closed within 3-4 years as part of Network Rail's programme of level crossing removal.
