The Meadows, Nottingham
The Meadows area was extensively redeveloped in the 70s, with large swathes of old housing being demolished. Some of the older housing was, however, retained, and this street scene shows the old meeting the new, with the older houses on the right-hand side of the road, and the newer on the left.

The Embankment Club
Former Boots Institute and shop in mock Tudor style now converted into a business and social club. It was built around 1907 as a chemist's shop and the Olde English Café. In 1922 the shop part developed into Boots's social club with the addition of billiard room, lounge and dance hall.

Plaque to swimmer Constance Jeans
The plaque recalls local swimmer Connie Jeans twice breaking the national swimming record for 220 yards at the opening of the Portland Baths, The Meadows, Nottingham. The historic baths (originally opened as a wash house in 1914) are still in use and part of the Portland Centre leisure facility. The pool is 33 yds long with cubicles alongside the poolside. Connie went on to represent Great Britain in the 1920 & 1924 Olympic Games winning silver medals in the 4x100m freestyle relays on both occasions but missing out finishing 4th in 3 individual events (100m & 300m 1920 & 100m 1924).
