Site of Dukeries Junction Low Level station, 1992
View southward on the ex-GNR East Coast Main Line - recently electrified, towards Grantham, Peterborough and London King's Cross. The view is taken from platform remains of the High Level station on the ex-GCR Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Line (Chesterfield - Lincoln). Both levels of Dukeries Junction station were closed from 6/3/50. Passenger services on the LD&EC line lasted until 19/9/55, but freight (mainly coal) continued right on until 2003; since 8/09 the bridge here has carried the High Marnham Test Track. Site of Dukeries Junction (High Level) station, 1992
View westward, towards Shirebrook/Langwith and Chesterfield: ex-GCR (Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast line), Chesterfield - Shirebrook North - Lincoln. This station was never a Junction, but was a little-used dual (High Level/Low Level) interchange station between the LD&EC and the East Coast Main Line (ex-Great Northern) below. Hardly any trains on either line ever stopped here and the station(s) were closed 6/3/50. The LD&ECR was closed Chesterfield - Shirebrook North to passengers 1/12/51, to goods 4/3/57: Shirebrook North - Lincoln to passengers 19/9/55, to goods 30/3/64, but remained open until 2003 from Shirebrook/Langwith Junction for merry-go-round coal trains for High Marnham Power Station near Clifton-on-Trent. From 10/7/09 this stretch, between Thoresby Colliery Junction and High Marnham, has been restored as the High Marnham Test Track.

East Coast Main Line at site of Dukeries Junction, 1992
View northward from the High Level line at the site of the former two-level station, which was less than a mile from the former Tuxford North station, towards Doncaster and the North, ex-GNR section of the ECML. (For details see Image]). Until 1964 there was a west-north loop, here coming from the left, from Tuxford Central on the ex-LD&ECR through Tuxford Exchange Sidings which joined the ECML at Tuxford North.
