Oxford Street
Looking down the hill from The Ropewalk towards Regent Street and Wellington Circus. These streets west of the mediaeval core of Nottingham were some of its first inner suburbs. The spire of Pugin's Roman Catholic Cathedral shows above the trees of Wellington Circus.

Cherwell House, 10 Oxford Street, Nottingham
House, now offices. c1859. By TC Hine of Nottingham. Restored late C20. Red brick, with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with stylised gable, valley and rear wall stacks. Gothic Revival style. Listed Grade II. An interesting comparison of styles with the contemporary building by the same architect on the opposite corner http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6117488 .

Down Oxford Street
Looking past the junction with Regent Street towards Wellington Circus on a cold and cheerless May morning. The spire of A W N Pugin's Roman Catholic Cathedral shows above the trees. These streets of fine houses were built in the 1850s as Nottingham began to expand from its mediaeval core.

The Ropewalk
Stucco to the right, brick to the left - and one very striking modern house. This area, to the west of the mediaeval core of Nottingham, was one of the first of the inner suburbs to be developed.

Hine House, 25 Regent Street, Nottingham
This was Thomas Hine's own house, with a drawing office in the single storey annexe. Built 1844-8, now converted to offices, Listed Grade II. Hine was responsible for much of the development of the Park Ward area in the 1840s-60s. The style of this house contrasts with his building on the opposite corner http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6117488 .
