Wheeler Gate
It's hard to imagine now that this was once the main bus route to Trent Bridge and West Bridgford. The Pearl Assurance building, straight ahead, was one of the first high-rise blocks built after the War.

Up Wheeler Gate
In former times this was one of the main routes into the city centre from Trent Bridge, West Bridgford and the south, crowded with cars, delivery vans, buses and trolleybuses. In those days the Sainsbury's Local on the right was Sisson & Parker, Nottingham's principal bookshop.

Street performance, Listergate
Listergate once formed the main exit south from the city centre to Trent Bridge, and is wide enough to accommodate street performance as well as its heavy pedestrian flow. The artist is just landing on a pile of broken glass after diving through his hoop of knives. He has attracted a sizeable crowd, and a sizeable contribution to his collecting bowl.
