Beyond the security gates is part of "The Mills Building". It appears to have been converted into residential apartments. The other buildings, e.g. the "Swann Building", in this cul-de-sac appear to have been industrial premises in the past, perhaps connected with the former lace-finishing work. It was not however, possible to ascertain how they are currently being used.

Although most of the building http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1785791 might be quite plain, many textile firms strove to impress clients by providing an elaborate entrance. In this instance, a fine example of Edwardian Baroque, dated 1906, and incorporating an Art Nouveau gate http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6112444 to the courtyard entrance. Warehouse and factory. Dated 1906. By GS Doughty of Nottingham for Philo L Mills. Red brick with concrete and terracotta dressings. Listed Grade II.

The Lace Market: Plumptre Place - Art Nouveau gates
The Grade II listed Mills Building, dated 1906, was originally a lace warehouse and factory, designed by the Nottingham architect G S Doughty for Philo L Mills. It is now in residential use. This archway, with fine Art Nouveau iron gates, was originally a cart entrance. The gates' design echoes that of the gates and railings of A E Lambert's Midland Station (1904) - see, among others, Image], Image] and Image Image] shows these gates in a wider context.

Directly ahead is part of "The Mills Building", and to its left, part of "The Wallis Building". Both these parts of two larger buildings are located at the eastern-most end of this cul-de-sac. It appears that "The Mills Building" - at least - has been converted into residential apartments. The blue-ish Ice Skating Arena of glass construction, on the opposite side of the A60, can be glimpsed on the right-hand margin of the photo.
