Heaton Park Road Bridge, Newcastle-upon- Tyne
A construction progress taken circa May 1989 during a night shift possession of the rail track (permanent way) to jack up the bridge located over the railway track to provide the required clearances to install a new overhead electrification cable system. The image shows an operative monitoring the stroke of one of the four hydraulic rams located at each corner of the bridge. Heaton Park Road Bridge, Newcastle-upon- Tyne
A construction progress photo taken in April 1989. The image shows the installation of a temporary Bailey bridge over the east side of Heaton Park Road bridge from which the existing utility services could be suspended and supported during the jacking up of the road bridge. The construction works were required to raise the bridge to enable the installation of the overhead electrification cables for the railway tracks located under the bridge, and to maintain the required safety envelope (safety clearances) for railway bridges and tunnels. Molineux Court can be seen in the background of the image. Image] Image] Image] Image] Image]

Heaton Park Road Bridge, Newcastle-upon- Tyne
A construction progress photograph taken circa May 1989. Preparatory works for raising the bridge deck to enable the installation of the overhead electrification cables for the railway track. Two of the four hydraulic jacks to be used for raising the bridge can be seen at either end of the bridge parapet/bridgedeck. The wing walls have been carefully taken down to avoid the bridge being snagged whilst being raised. Behind the steel parapet a Bailey bridge can be seen spanning the existing road bridge, this was used to support the existing utility services that cross the road bridge.
