The A406 in 2006, now a six lane road. Most of the Poplar trees have gone, though new trees of other species are being planted. The bus stops halfway up the hill are next to Long Lane which the A406 now bridges. The crest of the hill is the bridge over the Northern Line. The tower at the centre is in Finchley Fire Station for training firemen.

Road Closed
Three Valleys Water are renewing the water mains throughout East Finchley. During the course of this work some roads are closed temporarily as is the case here on Tarling Road. On the right is the new blue plastic water pipe. Much of the work is being carried out using trenchless methods, but here a trench has been cut across the road. A lone workman takes a lunch break on the track of the excavator. The mothers and buggies are en-route to the Newstead Children and Family centre - the low brick building on the right. The houses beyond are on Sylvester Road.

A406 North Circular Road
Seen from the footbridge carrying the footpath from Tarling Road. A 232 bus makes its way westward towards Brent Cross and St. Raphael's where it will turn around. The service is a 20 minute one and has recently converted to these MCV bodied MAN single deckers. Previously the service was provided by Dennis Dart's with plaxton bodies like the one in Image Behind is the BP service station which also houses a Marks and Spencer shop. In the foreground, the Blackberries seem to be flowering well - should be a bumper crop.
