East End Road
A cold November morning with bright hazy sunshine. The passengers at the stop look grateful for the chance to board a nice warm bus as their breath steams in the chill of the air. The road on the right is Abbots Gardens and the bus stop sits on a triangle at the junction of that road with East End Road. The traffic is relatively light for just after 9:00 on a Friday morning. The bus is an Alexander Dennis Enviro 200. The type replaced the previous Plaxton bodied Dennis Darts over the course of the summer in 2010, although there had been occasional forays by the type previously. See Image for an example of the previous vehicle type on the route.

Chaos Ensues
You close a road and it confuses lots of people. The dark blue VW exiting on the left drove right up to the cones before they believed that the road was really closed and then caused pandemonium by reversing back. The junction of East End Road with Deansway on the left.

Deansway
Looking towards the junction with East End Road. The yellow signs warn that East End road is closed to east bound traffic and a diversion is in operation. It's amazing how many drivers still turn right and are surprised to find cones across the road!

Prospect Place
This narrow road was built circa 1825 to connect East Finchley's market to East End Road. Today it is closed to motor traffic and the market has long since gone. The old centre of East Finchley, which occupied the land around Market Place, Park Road and Chapel Court, was badly damaged by bombing on 15/16 November 1940 and the area was subsequently rebuilt with a mixture of houses and tower blocks. Prospect Place, on the other side of this bridge became Prospect Ring with its associated tower blocks.

Seen from the bridge carrying Prospect Place over the Northern Line. This view has only been possible since recent work to remove trees from the embankments.

H3 For Golders Green
An Arriva bus makes its way along East End Road on the return run from its Hilltop terminus, past the triangle at Abbots Gardens. The H3 is a bit of an anomally in London bus terms having one early morning run and then an hourly service between 09:00 and 14:00 from Golders Green - there are no late afternoon or evening runs.
