On the north side of Pentonville Road (the A501) near the junction with Penton Rise (the A201) lies this extended former burial ground that now serves as a public garden called The Joseph Grimaldi Garden. It is named after Joey Grimaldi whose grave is seen here. Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837) was a London-born actor, comedian and dancer, who has been described as the most popular English entertainer of the Regency era. Pentonville Chapel (later known as St James' Episcopal Chapel) existed on this site between 1788-1985. In the place of the latter is a full-size Palladian replica of the chapel (visible in the background) that was built in the 1990s, that houses offices and apartments.
