Burst water main - Collier Street
Water was being forced into a jet high into the sky in the middle of Collier Street. Fortunately, this is not a busy street and although this picture was taken at 8.30am there was no disruption to traffic - the street was still open to pedestrians (and the wind was ensuring that the north side pavement was quite dry). The London fire brigade was in attendance but other than watch there was not much they could do.

Priory Green Estate, Collier Street
Although regarded by Pevsner as the "least satisfactory of Tecton's Finsbury estates" due to it being "compromised by cost-cutting", it is nevertheless better than most. There are four lower blocks at right angles to three taller blocks (and three more beyond the one seen here). Dreary deck access (right), the other sides (left and ahead) much more animated, displaying Lubetkin's fondness for patterns. By Skinner, Bailey and Lubetkin, 1947-57.
