The Tally Ho at Tally Ho Corner, North Finchley
Tally Ho Corner obtains its name from where in the 1820s and 30s the Tally Ho Coach Company kept horses that were used for the first change of horses for the Birmingham mail coach. The Tally Ho pub was built in 1927 on a wedge-shaped plot where Ballards Lane in the west meets the High Road (Great North Road) in the east. It replaced the Park Road Hotel on the same site.

Tally Ho
The Tally Ho public house was built in 1927. Although it is now a part of the Wetherspoons chain, it has retained much of its character. People visiting the pub will find many photographs of bygone Finchley adorning the walls. There are few pedestrians and the traffic has been held up by someone doing a u-turn. The impression is that this was taken on a quiet Sunday morning. In reality, it is mid-day on a Wednesday.

Lunchtime in the Tally Ho
Senior citizens chat over a lunchtime drink in the Tally Ho. This room is located on the ground floor at the north end of the building. Local photographs are framed on the wall.
Note the smoking notice hanging above the stairs up to the bar - now gone as smoking is no longer allowed anywhere inside public houses and restaurants since new legislation became law in 2007.

Buses at The Tally Ho
North Finchley is the terminus for a number of bus routes including the 134 which parks between journeys outside the Tally Ho public house. Here we see three of them awaiting their turn. Typically, it was the one in the middle that was due away first.
