Waiting for the Green Man
Pedestrian crossing on Ballards Lane, North Finchley. Opposite is the Post Office. Strong early morning sunlight reflects off the windows opposite to create a pattern on the road surface.

Shops in North Finchley
At the Northern extremity of Ballards Lane where it becomes one with the High Road - the southbound lane of which is in the foreground. The shop on the corner of Hall Street, Garland Electronics, always has a large stock of appliances and seems to do a good trade. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the shop next door, Rosebys interiors. They are holding a closing down sale. 9:45am and the traffic is building up but not many shoppers are about yet.

Tally Ho Corner, North Finchley
Tally Ho Corner obtains its name from where in the 1820s and 30s the Tally Ho Coach Company kept horses that were used for the first change of horses for the Birmingham mail coach. The Tally Ho pub was built in 1927 on a wedge-shaped plot where Ballards Lane in the west meets the High Road (Great North Road) in the east. It replaced the Park Road Hotel on the same site. In this view High Road is to the left and Ballards Lane is to the right. The Tally Ho pub is hidden by the trees. Local Information
An electronic information terminal set into a continental style advertising hoarding at the apex of the triangle created by Ballards Lane and the High Road - on the right. The terminal doesn't work and I didn't think we got that many tourists in North Finchley anyway. Autumn House, across the road, is a drinking establishment on the corner of Stanhope Road.
