Cottages in North Finchley
There are a number of cottages and houses in the roads around here which date from when this was a country village. This row of houses is in Lodge Lane.

Officers Attending!
Police Cars parked up in the centre of the Great North Road in North Finchley as the officers deal with a mobile phone theft. The BMW was first on the scene and the officers from the Vauxhall Astra, having ascertained that everything was under control, promptly sped off in search of the next incident - Christmas is a busy time for the Police.

Alleyway to Lodge Lane Car Park
Alleyway, which seems to be called Winifred Place (though the small wooden name board looks a bit unofficial!), beside the Iceland Supermarket with some interesting kerbstones and cobbles. I wonder if they were laid to fill wheelruts. There was a bus service from the Torrington (a now closed pub on the corner of Lodge Lane) to Charing Cross in 1851 and the vehicles may have turned here. An alternative, suggested by the 'point like' formation of the Kerbstones in the foreground, is that there were tram sidings here. More research is required! The road at the other end is the High Road.

High Road, North Finchley
Shops along the east side of the High Road at the junction with Friern Park. Coffee Republic was once a hardware store and, before that, who knows what else? The design of the building, which dates from 1906, is somewhat unique. The adjacent shops and bank do not appear to have had upper storeys. The Monday morning traffic is quite light in the period between the rush hour and shopping.
