Plaque at Highbury Corner commemorating loss of life by V1
This plaque seen from Highbury Corner is on what is now the northern end of Compton Terrace. Compton Terrace was completed in 1831. In 1944 a V1 destroyed or badly damaged 12 of the 19 houses north of the Union Chapel and in the 1960s Highbury Roundabout was built over the area devastated by the bomb. This plaque commemorates that event.

Compton Terrace and the Union Chapel from Highbury Corner
Seen on a misty and murky November afternoon, Compton Terrace was completed in 1831. Compton Terrace Garden in front of the terrace was originally for the private use of residents of Compton Terrace. In the 20th century, maintenance was transferred to Islington Borough Council and the gardens opened as a public amenity. Beyond the northern part of the terrace can be seen the impressive Union Chapel with the present building dating from the 1870s.
