Muswell Manor
This caravan site is the scene of the original home of the Royal Aero Club. On the flying field here in 1909 J.T.C Moore-Brabazon made the first flight in a heavier than air machine by a Briton in Britain, the aircraft unfortunately was French, this initial flight was 500 yards. It is also the site of the world's first ever aircraft production line constructing Wright Fliers under licence (the facility was soon moved to Eastchurch). Muswell Manor holiday park
I see from the 1940s map this place was called Mussel House in those days. Shellness Road deviates across the marsh to it before returning to follow the sea wall. The road is tarmac up to the point from which the photo was taken then becomes a very rough track down to the coastguard cottages at Shellness, passing the naturist beach on the way.

A bend in Shellness Road near Leysdown
A statue of the Short Brothers is somewhat randomly sited on this corner. (They constructed their first factory on adjacent land and the first recorded flight/circular mile in Britain was made here in 1909.)
