The New White Lion, Blackley, Manchester
Whilst clicking around to see if there was any truth in this statement, I found a local history blog where someone says that this plaque was placed there as a joke by a local car dealer in the late 80s or early 90s. Apparently, when the landlord of the pub was on holiday his mate Richard Turpin would look after it for him!

The New White Lion, Blackley, Manchester
This "new" pub has been closed for years and stands on Middleton Old Road. Last year I noticed a plaque on it (see other photo) which claims "Dick Turpin the Highwayman slept here." This seemed unlikely so I turned to Mr. Google. Whilst clicking around I found a local history blog where someone says that this plaque was placed there as a joke by a local car dealer in the late 80s or early 90s. The old New White Lion. It has been rotting for some years and has a hole in the roof which is always a very bad sign.
