Whilst clicking around to see if there was any truth in this statement, I found a local history blog where someone says that this plaque was placed there as a joke by a local car dealer in the late 80s or early 90s. Apparently, when the landlord of the pub was on holiday his mate Richard Turpin would look after it for him!
