The base carries an inscription recording those who fought in South Africa, 1899-1902, and insignia in low relief.

Oldfield Road
Part of the A5066 through Salford. Until 2008 what is now the Adelphi Sandwich Bar was a Post Office. A row of shops past Chung's Chippy had been demolished by 2011 but work on building new apartments on the site only started in 2017. Outside the former post office is an EIIR postbox Image

At the end of Oldfield Road Image off Salford Crescent (the A6) is the grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1386163 Lancashire Fusiliers Memorial by George Frampton which dates from 1905. The base carries an inscription recording those who fought in South Africa, 1899-1902, and insignia in low relief. Lancashire Fusiliers Boer War Memorial
The building behind the memorial is on the site of the former headquarters of the Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU). The TGWU was part of the TUC, which was first established in Salford in 1868 in the Three Crowns pub in King Street. The Art Deco headquarters stood on this site until 2003, when the building was demolished and replaced with these modern luxury apartments, opened in 2005.
