Guide Bridge station - former main building
At one time, Guide Bridge was a hugely important railway centre, with lines in all directions and several marshalling yards. The amount of office space provided in the former main buildings bears eloquent testimony.

Guide Bridge station - main buildings
The large run of buildings on the main Manchester-bound platform at Guide Bridge reflected the amount of goods traffic which once passed through or near to the station. By 1977, they were mainly derelict and subsequently this side of the station was completely closed. See a later photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828024 for this view around a decade later.

Guide Bridge station - fast line platforms
A Hadfield-Manchester EMU leaves Guide Bridge on what were, in 1977, the principal platforms for passenger traffic. Subsequently the line here was reduced from four tracks to two, with these being abandoned. See the result in photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828024.
