The large run of buildings on the main Manchester-bound platform at Guide Bridge reflected the amount of goods traffic which once passed through or near to the station. By 1977, they were mainly derelict and subsequently this side of the station was completely closed. See a later photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828024 for this view around a decade later.
