New Broadcasting House, the regional headquarters of BBC North West on the site bounded by Oxford Road, Charles Street, Brancaster Street and the River Medlock was built between 1971 and 1975; it was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976. The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and now, less than a year later, is just a pile of rubble.

Global Vision College was located in a purpose built high tech building with 5 floors, situated in the heart of Manchester City Centre. It was previously home to Emile Woolf College which was established there in 1990 until it was bought by Kaplan College a couple of years ago. Crews were called to the five-storey Global Vision building on Charles Street at 23:25 BST on Sunday 1st July 2012. BBC New Broadcasting House, The regional headquarters of BBC North West on Oxford Road, was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976. The building is due to close in 2011 when BBC North West will relocate to the BBC's new northern "media hub" at MediaCity:UK, currently under construction at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester. Update: The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and, less than a year later, was just a pile of rubble (Image]).

Pevsner is dismissive: "dull". By the BBC's chief architect, R.A. Sparks, c1975.I doubt that post still exists. It looks like long bands of ribbed white concrete and strip windows. It closed in 2011 when the BBC relocated to Salford Quays.

At the junction with Charles Street, Oxford Street becomes Oxford Road. The vacant plot on the opposite corner is the site of the since demolished BBC New Broadcasting House.
