BBC New Broadcasting House, The regional headquarters of BBC North West on Oxford Road, was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976. The building is due to close in 2011 when BBC North West will relocate to the BBC's new northern "media hub" at MediaCity:UK, currently under construction at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester. Update: The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and, less than a year later, was just a pile of rubble (Image]).
