New Broadcasting House, the regional headquarters of BBC North West on the site bounded by Oxford Road, Charles Street, Brancaster Street and the River Medlock was built between 1971 and 1975; it was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976.
The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and now, less than a year later, is just a pile of rubble.

Former BBC, Oxford Road, Manchester
Pevsner is dismissive: "dull". By the BBC's chief architect, R.A. Sparks, c1975.I doubt that post still exists. It looks like long bands of ribbed white concrete and strip windows.
It closed in 2011 when the BBC relocated to Salford Quays.
