Manchester: Rochdale Canal, 1983
Taken when the short stretch of the Rochdale Canal through the city centre, from the Ashton canal to the Bridgewater, was the only remaining navigable stretch, and before this area was opened out and tidied up.
In the distance, the tower of the Refuge Assurance building (now, 2013, a hotel).

17-19 Whitworth Street West, Manchester
No doubt another one of Manchester's countless former warehouses. Dated 1904 at the top. Terracotta-clad ground floor, red brick above, paired windows divided by giant piers and at the top a decorative gable with an obelisk thrusting through the top.
Looks as if it has recently been refurbished as offices (and christened the 'Merchant Exchange Building').
