Velvet House
In 1928 Velvet House was a vacant warehouse opposite the main entrance to UMIST. The building was rented by the University and adapted to provide a home for departments including Municipal Engineering and Building. http://www.mace.manchester.ac.uk/project/teaching/civil/historic_construction/maps/umist.php

Now it has been converted into offices and apartments.

Former UMIST building, Sackville Street, Manchester
The majestic former main building of the Municipal School of Technology, by Spalding & Cross, 1895-1912, in a Loire style. Very tall with ornate gables, emphatic centrepiece (Image]), all in brick, red stone and Burmantofts terracotta carved panels (Image]). Grade II listed.
Currently used by the new, improved University of Manchester which resulted from the merger of the old UoM and UMIST.

Granby House, Granby Row, Manchester
Fantastic former warehouse of red brick and Portland stone stripes. Art Nouveau touches and windows deeply set between moulded piers. By G.H. Goldsmith, 1908. Grade II listed.
It is now flats.
