St Cyprian's war memorial
The memorial names the dead of the First World War on the front, and the Second on the right hand side. The present church building only dates from 1959, but there was a mission church on virtually the same site from 1903.

Church of St Cyprian and St James, Harehills
A mission church was built here in 1903 within the parish of St Alban the Martyr (of which neither church nor parish is still extant). The parish of St Cyprian was formed in 1940 but the present church was only opened in 1959, architect G Davy. According to Historic England, "The three churches, St Cyprian and St James, St David and St Paul, designed by Geoffrey Davy and built between 1959 and 1965, are the most striking of their period in Leeds. They display an awareness of advances in liturgical thinking through the architect's membership of the New Churches Research Group, demonstrate the care that went into their design and detailing and show how the example of Le Corbusier's chapel at Ronchamp influenced the work of a provincial British practice." For the other two mentioned here, see Image and Image The reference to St James in the name is to the church on Kirkgate that was demolished in 1951. According to the Leodis local history website, some items from the old St James's were installed in this one, including the altar, organ, pulpit, communion table, lectern and Bishop's chair.
