The Sutcliffe Gates, Headingley Stadium
Subtitled "In honour of a great Yorkshire and England cricketer". I presume the player in question is Herbert Sutcliffe (1894 - 1978), rather than Iain Sutcliffe who was born in Leeds in 1974 but played for Lancashire.

Headingley Cricket Ground: the scoreboard
Not a good day for Yorkshire: Notts ended the day on 497 for 6, a first-innings lead of 319, with their Australian batsman David Hussey on 222 not out - so my day trip from Cambridge was well worth while. This is the state of play half an hour from the close.

Entrances to Cornerstone Church, Headingley
Formerly known as South Parade Baptist Church, the place of worship built in 1925 by the local architects Jones and Stocks now has a contemporary glass entrance (left). The more ornate brick-and-stone entrance is to the older former Sunday School of 1908 by Percy Robinson and the same W A Jones, now in commercial use. Together they are grade II listed (list entry 1256025). See Image for a wider view.

Headingley Cricket Ground: the Carnegie Pavilion
The new pavilion at the Kirkstall Lane End is a bold affair. It will probably take some while to grow on those who prefer more traditional designs. There was no play before lunch on Day 2 of the Yorkshire-Notts game, but plenty afterwards, all of it to the taste of visiting supporters.
