Claremont - Clarendon Road
This house now acts as the headquarters for the Yorkshire Archaeological Society. Previously the home of Dr J D Heaton - see photograph of blue plaque on wall

"Claremont", Clarendon Road, Leeds
Built in 1772 for John Elam a Quaker merchant until 1840 when purchased by John Atkinson who then began developing the grounds until in 1856 when Dr John Deakin Heaton physician and co-founder of the Yorkshire College bought the house and had a new entrance and bay windows added,at some point later it was used as a nursing home for a number of years but from 1968 the house has belonged to The Yorkshire Archaeological Society and Thoresby Society.

Statue of Sir Peter Fairbairn - Woodhouse Square
Mayor of Leeds in 1857 and 1858 - the statue was erected in 1867. Queen Victoria stayed at his house (Woodsley House, later Fairbairn House, in Clarendon Road) when she came to open Leeds Town Hall in September 1858. On that occasion she also knighted Peter Fairbairn

Woodhouse Square, Leeds
Laid out in the grounds of "Claremont"an 18th Cent mansion which John Atkinson a mill owner had purchased in 1840 who also planned developments on the square but as in the case of Hanover Square was never completed.
