Mayor of Leeds in 1857 and 1858 - the statue was erected in 1867. Queen Victoria stayed at his house (Woodsley House, later Fairbairn House, in Clarendon Road) when she came to open Leeds Town Hall in September 1858. On that occasion she also knighted Peter Fairbairn
