The Black Prince

Leeds: former GPO on west side of City Square
When the fine Victorian city of Leeds was at its height, this building on the west side of City Square was the General Post Office. It is now used for a variety of purposes.

The former Majestic Cinema
A relatively early major cinema building, designed 1921 by Pascal Steinlet. The exterior is in the Classical 'Beaux Arts' style in Burmantofts 'Marmo' terracotta. The building was successively a Bingo hall and night club retaining a fair amount of the interior spaces, but it was burnt out completely in 2014. There are currently (2017) plans to redevelop it retaining the existing shell. Listed Grade II.

Site boards
At street level site boards conceal the work on the Majestic Cinema site, and above those is a huge advertising hoarding. There is a slight glimpse through the gap between them of the hollow void inside the retained facia where the building has been gutted
