10-8 Hamilton Road, Lincoln
Planning records seem to suggest Hamilton Villa, no.10 was built from approval in April 1882 for E Walstow and Fern Villa, no.8 in January 1883 for John Machon, the architect being J T Drury in both cases. Although the roof appears to be contiguous the brickwork shows a gap between the two. I don't know if they were built to let but by 1885 occupants are listed in directories as no.8 Samuel Machon and no.10 Albert Ellison Rogers. They had moved on by 1889 and directory entries include; 1889 8 George Jas Lang, 10 Henry Priestland. 1894-1897 8 John Slater, engineer, 10 Mrs H Priestland. 1901 8 Joseph A Wesley, 10 Mrs L Priestland. 1909 8 John Frederick James, 10 William Rusling. 1905 8 J F James, 10 Mrs E Kitchingman. 1913-1919 8 J F James, 10 William Rusling engineer's clerk. 1965 8 Ralf Bates, 10 Mrs A E Nettleship.

I can't find planning files for the houses but they show some resemblance to 8 and 10 by architect J T Drury. This pair, Elm House, no.4 and Brookland House, no.6 unlike 8 and 10 appear to have been built at the same time. However the 1885 directory includes No.4 with William Robey but I can't locate no.6. The 1872 directory has only one house (no.21) on the street, dating No.4 at least to the intervening period. By 1889 John Francis Bodycoat is listed as being at no.6. Can we infer from this the pair was built 1885-1886?

21 Hamilton Road, Lincoln
The Willows is shown on the 1885 OS map but my earlier maps don't reach out of Lincoln this far. The Character Statement for the area describes Hamilton road as new in c.1860; it's not in Akrils 1857 directory and I can't find it in the Post Office 1868 directory. In White's 1872 directory there is only one house in Hamilton Road occupied by William Mason music dealer who is listed in 1885 at the Willows. It suggests therefore house was built 1869 to 1872, presumably for Mason. It seems half of the 1994 garage (that replaced an earlier version) was converted to an office in 2007.
